Welcome to the 'Parknoweth Tramway', we are passionate about old West Country mineral tramways, studing them, researching them, exploring them and modelling them.

If you are also interested in them, then you are very welcome to come along for the ride.

According to Bertram Baxter in his book 'Stone Blocks and Iron rails' the Parknoweth Tramway ran 'From Old Pack Horse Road to Penzance (G.R. 393334) via Trewellard, thence by circuitous route to Wheal Owler(sic) - it should be Wheal Owles - and Wheal Drea deep tin mines. (2.25m). ND - no details known. trfc (traffic): tin and copper ore. O.S. SW33. And that is that!

My interest in the line is that I went to school in Penzance and have a recolection of seeing in my youth a mineral tramway marked on a map in approximately the right location. I now want to find out what, if anything, I can about this line that seems to be a bit like the village of Glocca Morra which only appeared on occasion.

So how did the line get from Wheal Drea, Wheal Owles and Parknoweth to G.R. 393334

I honestly do not know but there are some interesting things to see on Google Satellite.

Also note the Wheals Grouse and Boys to Botallack Tramway on the map.
